TikTok’s newest and most popular trend has arrived: Plazacore

Pretend you’re Eloise and it’s dress-up time.

TikTok has become more influential than runways in shaping the fashion industry’s collective consciousness in recent years, particularly in terms of avant-garde styles. Plazacore is a fantastic case study of the aforementioned. The “Eloise” style, so-called because of the famous fictional woman who lives in New York’s Plaza Hotel, is pervasive these days.

For the sake of argument, let’s say that your closet is full of classic items like tweed, hair bows and headbands, collared shirts, and the like. Blair Waldorf, heiress and former Upper East Side inhabitant, has returned with a more updated (but still preppy!) style matching her status. Even if you didn’t like Gossip Girl’s fashion when it first aired more than 15 years ago (!), you have to admit that the current edition is as stylish as they come.

However, your “aesthetic” may also matter in Plazacore. TikTok stars like @prettylittlefawn and @thesandraduran have actually visited there to shoot videos. The movies are fantastic for atmosphere, but a green screen and a trip to your local five-star hotel will do the trick just as well.

If you’re a fan of Plazacore, you may take comfort in the knowledge that it’s being noticed by more than just the TikTok artists who have put their own spin on Eloise this season. Gather a Peter Pan collar, a tweed suit from Grandma’s closet, and a strand of pearls to complete the look. If you want to dodge the trend, you’ve missed the boat.
