5 Compelling Reasons to Invest in the XGIMI Horizon Ultra 4K Projector

The XGIMI Horizon Ultra 4K Projector

At IFA 2023, XGIMI unveiled its newest flagship projector, the Horizon Ultra. It’s a cracking 4K projector with integrated Dolby Vision, fantastic automatic keystone options, and enhanced color correction tools. All in all, it’s a great bit of kit, and here are five reasons you should consider the XGIMI Horizon Ultra for your next home projector.

1. Brighter

With 2,300 ISO lumens, the Horizon Ultra offers a 27% increase in brightness compared to its predecessor, the Horizon Pro. This was particularly beneficial in the well-lit exhibition hall, where the projector maintained a relatively bright and engaging image as we walked by despite combating the sun from the overhead skylights. However, we also noticed that the colors appeared more washed out under such harsh lighting conditions. It’s worth noting that this is common among laser projectors, but for users in more controlled home environments, the improved brightness levels should help combat issues caused by moderate ambient light.

2. Dual Light Technology

The Horizon Ultra is equipped with a 0.47-inch 4K DLP chipset, utilizing rapid pixel-shifting. The projector supports HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision HDR, promising a high-quality viewing experience for various content types. XGIMI’s innovative use of LED and Laser technologies in the Horizon Ultra results in precise color accuracy and a wide color gamut coverage.

During our demo, we experienced the improved vividness and richness of its colors, which became even more evident in the darker demo rooms. The projector achieves an impressive 95.5% DCI-P3 color gamut, with color accuracy out of the box rated at under 1 DeltaE.

3. Intelligent Screen Adaptation 3.0

One of the standout features is the Horizon Ultra’s improved Intelligent Screen Adaptation 3.0. XGIMI had a Horizon Ultra attached to a motorized mount, which would rotate horizontally. At IFA 2023, we saw the Ultra automatically recognize and avoid picture frames on the wall and automatically adjust its picture size and shape to align perfectly within a 16×9 area on the wall. This squares off the image without “interrupting” the viewing experience and requiring a test-pattern target.

4. Wall Color Correction

XGIMI has integrated automated wall color correction for accurate color reproduction on differently-tinted surfaces. Although the lighting conditions at IFA made it challenging to assess the feature’s effectiveness fully, it holds promise for users with lightly colored walls. It’s a practical addition that caters to users who want a semi-portable projector and don’t plan on using a dedicated projector screen.

5. Built-In Stereo Audio

The projector features dual 12W Harman Kardon speakers and DTS Studio Sound Technology, providing satisfying audio quality. While not a replacement for a dedicated sound system, these speakers offer a solid audio solution for those seeking convenience.

The XGIMI Horizon Ultra is available for $1,699, making it an attractive choice for those seeking a compact all-in-one high-quality home projector that’s easy and quick to set up, no matter the room.
