The Dangerous Reality of Wildfire Prone Areas

As climate change continues to take its toll on the planet, more and more areas are becoming vulnerable to wildfires. In the United States alone, wildfires have been responsible for devastating losses of life and property in recent years, from the Camp Fire that destroyed the town of Paradise, California in 2018, to the 2020 wildfire season that saw record-breaking destruction across the western states.

For those who live in wildfire-prone areas, the threat of disaster is a constant presence. Despite the risks, however, many people continue to call these areas home, drawn by the beauty and solitude of the natural world, as well as the promise of lower living costs and a simpler way of life.

But what does it mean to live on the edge of wildfire country? And is the risk worth the reward?

One thing is clear: wildfires are a fact of life in many parts of the world, and those who choose to live in these areas must be prepared to face the consequences.
