As a journalist, I can report that several leaders who had quit the Imran Khan-led party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) last month have formed a new political outfit namedDemocrats’. The new party is led by former home minister of Punjab, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, who was among the 20 lawmakers who had resigned from the PTI in May.
According to Dawn newspaper, Rashid said that the Democrats will continue to act as an opposition to the ruling Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM). The PDM is an alliance of opposition parties that has been holding rallies across the country to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The formation of the Democrats is seen as a setback for Imran Khan’s PTI, which has been facing internal dissent and criticism over its handling of the economy and the Covid-19 pandemic. The PTI has also been accused of using strong-arm tactics to silence dissent within the party.
As a journalist, it is important to verify information and sources before reporting. In this case, the information about the formation of the Democrats comes from a reputable source, Dawn newspaper. However, it is important to note that the PTI has not yet issued a statement on the matter, and it is unclear how much support the new party will garner.
